At The Pool Service Co., we value strong leadership and experienced people on the road. Daniel is one of our area managers, and we are genuinely lucky to have him on the team. With over 11 years in the industry, Daniel brings deep knowledge, clear standards, and a calm, practical approach that works well with the crew. We spent some time talking with Daniel to understand how he works, what he believes matters most in pool care, and what drives him day to day. This blog shares his views, in his words, and gives a closer look at how he approaches the job.
Daniel starts his days early. Gym first. No coffee. No fuss. By the time most people are waking up, he says he is already on the road, watching the sun come up over the Harbour Bridge and getting himself set for the day ahead. That quiet drive in the morning is one of his favourite parts of the job. “I love that drive,” Daniel says. “It gives me time to focus and sets the tone for the day.”
As an area manager at The Pool Service Co., Daniel is responsible for more than his own route. He looks after standards across his area, making sure every pool is serviced properly, every time. Daniel is clear about what that means. “There’s nothing vague about a clean pool,” he says. “You either see it or you don’t.” He believes most people underestimate what goes into keeping a pool healthy. “It’s not one chemical or one quick skim. Balance matters. Consistency matters. Doing things the right way matters.”
Precision sits at the centre of how Daniel works and how he trains his team. One tool he relies on is the spin discs, a digital water testing devices that measure pool chemistry and balance with exact readings. Daniel says they remove guesswork from pool testing. “Colour charts leave too much room for error,” he explains. “Spin discs give us numbers, and numbers tell us exactly what the water needs. No more. No less.” He believes this approach protects pools long term and helps his team deliver the same result every visit.
The most satisfying part of Daniel’s day is seeing the outcome. Turning up to a pool that needs attention and leaving it clean, clear, and ready to use. “The before and after still matter to me,” he says. “That visible change is why the work feels worthwhile.”
Working outdoors is another reason Daniel enjoys the role. Different suburbs. Different conditions. No two pools are the same. “A pool with a view never gets old,” Daniel says. “Being outside all day keeps the job interesting and keeps you sharp.”
If Daniel had to give one piece of advice to pool owners, it would be simple. “Get the right people looking after your pool,” he says. “Consistency and knowledge save money and stop small issues becoming big ones.”
Outside of work, Daniel keeps things simple. After a day on the road, he says he would happily jump straight into a pool himself. If he could swim anywhere in the world, the answer comes easily. “The Mediterranean,” Daniel says. “Clear water. Calm conditions. No rush.”
Music and podcasts fill long days, with Joe Rogan often on rotation alongside health-focused content. Daniel says not everything you find in a pool is expected. The strangest encounter so far has been a red belly black snake. “That definitely keeps you alert,” he says.
Daniel values working as part of a team. He says the depth of experience at The Pool Service Co. makes a real difference. “People share knowledge here,” he explains. “If something unusual comes up, we talk it through.” And when deeper experience is needed, Marty is always there. With over 45 years in the industry, Daniel says, “He’s seen everything.” That mix of teamwork and experience, Daniel believes, is what keeps standards high across his area.
When Daniel is not working with The Pool Service Co. on weekends, he keeps things simple. He usually starts with a sunrise swim at the beach, followed by breakfast and a slower pace for the rest of the day. Being outdoors, staying fit, and spending time in the water are how he switches off and resets for the week ahead.
Daniel brings that same steady approach to his work. Clear standards. Consistent systems. No shortcuts.
